NAPLAN is approaching!
NAPLAN is conducted in Australia for students in Grades 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN is an assessment that benchmarks a student’s literacy and numeracy progress against national standards.
NAPLAN is conducted annually in March.
There are a number of advantages for preparing for NAPLAN:
- Preparing helps build confidence, when students are prepared, they will likely feel more confident going into the exams. Becoming familiar with the content of the different NAPLAN exams and how to approach tasks is critical for confidence.
- Doing past NAPLAN papers can make learners feel more test ready as they will have knowledge of the lay out of the exams and the type of questions asked. It is good to do lots of sample questions in advance. Doing past papers also allows learners to experience the exam under test conditions. Furthermore, practising under conditions similar to the conditions on the day of the exam helps students to pace themselves effectively during the exam.
- It is also important to reinforce fundamental literacy (reading, writing, spelling and grammar) and numeracy concepts.
- Preparing for NAPLAN also reduces anxiety. If students prepare for the exams, they are likely to feel less stressed during the exam period.
